The Five Year Old Speech Coach
A Chinese client of mine relayed a story to me about how his five-year-old son helps him with his English pronunciation. The son was born in America and according to the father, has perfect American pronunciation. They have a game where the father says an English word, trying his best to make it sound very American, and then the son rates his attempt on a 1 to 10 scale (10 being the best). Recently, the father tried to say the word “soil”. After several tries, the highest rating the son would give him was a 2, after which his son said, “Oh, just say dirt!”
This is a very entertaining and fun game for families to play together! However, a professional speech coach can help adults effectively pronounce ANY word they try to say! If you’re tired of…
- Being often misunderstood
- People frequently asking you to repeat yourself
- People focusing more on your accent than what you’re saying
- Fearing your accent is standing in the way of getting the job you want or being promoted at work
- Feeling embarrassed and upset when people have difficulty understanding you
… you aren’t alone! Accent Modification might be the right program for you. The most important goals of accent modification are speaking English with improved pronunciation and being clearly understood by others. While retaining the charm of your native accent, you will be able to:
- Be understood at work and at school
- Enhance your social communication
- Achieve greater career and professional advancement
- Build your self-confidence
